Qualifications

Dr. Houssayni is a Board Certified Pediatrician and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

She graduated from the American University of Beirut with a BS in Biology, and was awarded her doctorate in 1998.

Dr. Houssayni began a transitional internship, and did an elective in Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN. She finished her internship at State University of New York (SUNY) in Syracuse. She also began her residency there.

Dr. Houssayni completed her pediatric residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita. As part of her studies, she did pediatric subspecialty rotations in cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, allergy and immunology.

She has a special interest in pediatric endocrinology, the study of diabetes and other hormonal dysfunction.

Background

As a resident in Syracuse, NY, Dr. Houssayni received the Excellence in Teaching award, selected out of all residents by third and fourth year medical students.

While in residency at KU, she completed a reportable case study on Spinal Kink Syndrome, a rare syndrome that causes severe malformation of the spine resulting in paraplegia.

Dr. Houssayni received a scholarship to attend the American University of Beirut, Lebanon.  She is multilingual--in addition to English, Sara is fluent in Arabic and French, and speaks Spanish.

Dr. Houssayni is married to Dr. Nazih Moufarrij, a vascular neurosurgeon with Wichita Surgical Specialists, and is the mother of twin boys.

Philosophy of Practice - "To me, being a pediatrician means being an important part of developing a child's potential."

Dr. Houssayni considers herself a child advocate and likes to treat not only the child who is sick, but also prevent the underlying problems that cause illness.

She is interested in guiding families to realize their child's full potential, and help parents with their child's psychological, emotional and physical development.

Similar to a seed, children grow and develop. Dr. Houssayni anticipates seeing children grow from newborns to young adulthood, and hopes to help them become all that they were meant to be.

Her hope is to help families navigate the best way to that goal and make it as smooth as possible so that families will enjoy and appreciate their children.
